Walter's duiker (Philantomba walteri) is a species of duiker found in Togo, Benin and Nigeria. Officially discovered in 2010 in the Dahomey Gap, West Africa. Its named after a man named - Walter Verheyen.
The most Interesting Characteristics of Walter' Duiker is its small height, measuring an average of only 40cm (16 in.) and weighing 4-6 kg. It is a small antalope and is characterised by a slightly raised back, short legs, a small head and short, rounded ears. It has a long tail, pedal glands and a distinctive stripe above the eye.
These species were frist found on sale at a bushmeat market. they have come from the area of savannah which is a portion of the Guinean forest-savanna mosaic with a relatively dry climate, that extends all the way to the coast in Benin, Togo and Ghana, separating the rainforest zones on either side.
This is particularly interestingly given that the duiker is not a grazing animal, and typically feeds on berries and other similar items of nourishments, which grow on plants.
